We love history here at Cole AD and recently had the honour of working with Langside Community Heritage and Finn’s Place.
The client asked us to design print materials to commemorate the experiences of Langside residents before and after The Great War through their “Our War is Over” event at Langside Church, Glasgow.
The area of Langside is rich in history and the team at Finn’s Place undertook extensive research, uncovering the stories of a small group of local people who walked the streets of Langside. Many left to fight overseas in WW1 and the print work documented their experiences.
Collecting images and illustrations by Fred Farrell from the Mitchell Library and creating poetry inspired by their research, the team at Langside wanted to collate all their hard work in a way that would not only do their research justice at the event, but make it easily accessible too.
Our design team stepped up to the challenge, working closely with the team from Langside to create interesting print and marketing materials. Taking inspiration from the Langside Church and distinctive war memorabilia, we created a unique WW1 booklet documenting these Great War stories involving the local heroes who served. Roller banners and posters were also produced to help support the Langside Church event.
One of the key features of the booklet is a bespoke infographic map detailing the shocking number of casualties involving men who left Glasgow to fight and never came home.
The End Result

“From the first meeting, to talking through our idea and until the delivery of our booklet the folk at Cole AD were more than helpful. They did a fantastic job of the design and despite many changes and challenges with the content they completed the project for us. We were delighted with the end result which adds to our selection of information on the local area.”
Ruth Forsythe, Community Development Director, Finn’s Place
“Cole Advertising and Design created a wonderful booklet for us – ‘Our War is Over’. Which respectfully presented our stories about what life was like for Langside folk during the first World War. Cole AD created a tone, colour palette, layout and style which complimented our content and brought our stories vividly to life. Emma worked tirelessly and patiently with us accommodating changes and tight deadlines to produce a booklet we are immensely proud of. We believe it will be a valuable source of local heritage material for the future. We highly recommend Cole AD and look forward to working with them again on future projects.”
