Does it ever feel like some people just have more hours in the day than you do? We’re a busy bunch at Cole AD, but one of our motto’s is that we never stop learning and growing as individuals and as a team.

However, finding the time for learning or skill development is another story! That’s why we’re slightly in awe of our own Morgan who has managed to not only participate in, but reach the UK finals of WorldSkills UK’s Web Design competition

After joining us in May of this year, Morgan has hit the ground running by working with clients to deliver some visually stunning and technically brilliant websites. Not content to just knock it out of the park from 9-5, she decided to put herself forward for the WorldSkills UK web design competition as a way of honing her skills in a high-pressure environment.

The competition is run by WorldSkills UK, an organisation dedicated to supporting young people to develop their skills via competitions-based training.

The competition environment is a challenging one, as tasks are undertaken in pressured workplace conditions as competitors bring together technical aptitude with speed and accuracy under the watchful eyes of expert judges –  certainly a bit more nerve wracking than your average day in the office!

The competition was available for anyone in the UK to enter. Amongst thousands of applicants, Morgan placed 3rd overall in the first round! The top eight competitors from the qualifiers then progressed to the UK finals. Morgan, of course, secured her place in the finals comfortably. She’s currently gearing up to head to Bristol next week to attend the finals. Those who perform at a high enough standard in the finals even have the opportunity to progress to an international competition level in Lyon, France.

Competitions like this are not only a great opportunity for young people to challenge themselves and learn from like-minded people. They’re also a win for employers in these industries. Those participating in competitions like this are taking the chance to achieve their goals and aspirations, and that inspires others around them to do the same. We’ve definitely all been motivated by Morgan’s success and drive, in her daily work and her competition performance, to meet her at her level.

We’ll be rooting for Morgan from back home and can’t wait to see what she does in the finals. If the work she’s already produced as part of Cole AD is any indicator, we think we have a winner on our hands!

In any workplace, we’re often influenced and affected by each other’s energy and attitude. That’s why we think it’s important to create a team full of good people with a can-do attitude who strive to do better every day. If that sounds like you, and you’ve been inspired by Morgan’s story, then we’d really love to hear from you…

We’re currently on the lookout for a new web developer to add to our ever growing team. So if you’re a web dev whizz kid (even if you’re just a ‘kid’ at heart) click here for more details on how to apply.
